ABOUT US
University of Alcalá (UAH) was founded in 1499 and it is one of the oldest universities in Spain. It is located in Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO world heritage site. Today UAH is a modern institution which offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes adapted to the European Higher Education Area and covering all fields of knowledge, from the humanities to engineering, and from the social sciences to experimental and biomedical sciences. Around 28000 students — approximately 16000 undergraduates and 12000 postgraduates — are currently reading for a regulated degree at UAH. The Department of Computer Sciences is having a total number of more than 50 full time researchers and teachers, around 30 part-time as well as over 15 research assistants and ICT technicians.
UAH has different units which are relevant for digital accessibility such as:
– Unit of Attention to Diversity , which is a specialized service of support and advice that aims at the promotion, development, coordination and evaluation of all those actions adopted in and from the UAH that favour the full inclusion of people with diversity (functional, sexual affective, socio-cultural…) in the university environment.
-Institute of Educational Sciences, which is a Teaching Support Service whose main objectives are: pedagogical training and specialized teaching in educational innovation for teachers, development and training of the modality of non-attendance higher education, by means of information technologies – virtual teaching and the support in university policy on issues of European convergence, in terms of evaluation processes and accreditation of degrees and teaching.
– UAH has a specific faculty for Education.
– Specific department of academic Quality Assurance monitors all the activities and follows the internal rules of QA as well as the mandatory procedures of National Authorities.
– The University of Alcalá is an accredited test centre for the European Computer Driving License/International Certificate of Digital Literacy (ICDL/ECDL), which is the European certification that recognizes basic and complete training in computer skills at user level.
